VOLUNTEER

You Are The Difference!

CLICK HERE to download the VOLUNTEER INFORMATION FORM or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Beth Strange to get involved.

As one of the nation’s largest community-based theatres, the Volunteer is the heart and soul of what we do. More than 300 Volunteers are involved in producing a season of shows and events at BRLT.  On stage, backstage, out front or behind the scenes, there are dozens of ways to become involved each year.  No matter your age, experience or schedule, there is an opportunity perfect for you.  Here are some of the ways to enjoy the BRLT Volunteer Experience...

  • Performers
Actors, singers, dancers -- there are plenty of performance opportunities for all!  With a season of comedies, musicals, dramas and even a classic or two, performers of all ages and every level of experience can 'tread the boards' at BRLT.  Open auditions are held throughout the year, usually about six to nine weeks prior to each production.  For more information, follow the Auditions link.
  • Office Assistance
This is another great opportunity for those looking for an occasional day-time project.  Volunteers assist the Administrative Staff with ticket sales, answering phones, mailings, updating archives and other projects in the Box Office.  Help is needed weekdays between 9AM and 5PM.  Or you can also work the Will-Call Window before evening and matinee performances.  To sign up, contact Beth Strange in the BRLT Box Office at (225) 924-6496.
  • Ushers/Ticket Takers
Join us for the performances!  Ushers are needed to take tickets and assist our patrons to their seats. You generally work one performance per show, though many enjoy working more.  This is a wonderful way to be a part of BRLT and see the shows for free!  To sign up, contact Beth Strange in the BRLT Box Office, (225) 924-6496.
  • Stage Managers
The Production Stage Manager (PSM) heads up the tech crews, calls cues, in short -- 'manages' the run of the show.  Contact the Managing Artistic Director, Keith Dixon at (225) 924-6496 for more information.
  • Assistant Stage Managers
Assistant Stage Managers (ASM) work with the PSM during rehearsals with administrative projects and during performances to ensure a smooth production.  They are the “eyes and ears” of the PSM backstage.  This is a great way to learn the ropes!  Contact the Managing Artistic Director, Keith Dixon at (225) 924-6496 for more information.
  • Props Crew
If you like hunting for unusual items like a London newspaper or a Victorian chair this may be perfect for you.  The props master and crew are responsible for locating or making all those items used by the actors on stage.  Talk to our Volunteer Coordinator, Beth Strange, (225) 924-6496, and let the hunt begin!  No experience needed!
  • Costumes
Whether you are a beginner or highly skilled, we can find a costume project that's perfectly suited for you.  Building and maintaining costume pieces uses both sewing and non-sewing skills.  Perhaps you can work backstage on the costume run crew to assist actors with costume changes, or help us pull costumes and build new ones.  If you'd like to be part of the fun, contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Beth Strange at (225) 924-6496 for more information.  No experience needed!
  • Lighting & Sound
This can be an illuminating experience!  During the performances the light board operator runs the light cues on our computer light board and the crew works follow spots.  The sound board operator runs a multi-channel mixing board to control music, sound effects and microphones.  Call the BRLT Volunteer Cooridnator, Beth Strange at (225) 924-6496, and 'Get In' to tech!  No experience needed!
  • Stage Crew
Work the fly-lines, move scenery, pull curtains, operate special effects -- there can be as much 'action' backstage as there is out front during a big show.  Our Tech Director would love to sign you up.  Call Beth Strange at (225) 924-6496, and help make the magic of live theatre come to life!  No experience needed!
  • Set Builders & Painters
Every weekday and many Saturdays, the BRLT Scene Shop is 'a-buzz' with activity.  Our skilled technical staff works with volunteers to build and paint our elaborate sets and props.
No experience needed!  Call Beth Strange at (225) 924-6496.
  • Street Team
The BRLT Street Team is a group of community members working together to promote BRLT throughout the Greater Baton Rouge Area and spread the word about upcoming events.  Street Teamers can hang posters or pass out fliers and postcards to their schools, organizations, or local businesses.  BRLT will supply all materials and ask that members send updates about when and where they have posted information.

For more information or to become a BRLT Volunteer, please send an e-mail expressing your interests to volunteer@brlt.org.
